The Most Talented Pirate Hunter - Chapter 22
“Twin Wheel Gunner Kokos has been taken down.”
“Pirate Hunter Hermes Jormungandr has won!”
The entire street fell silent.
Countless eyes, both hidden and visible, revealed shock, joy, and apprehension. After all, Kokos was a pirate with a bounty of 44 million Berries.
At this moment, Hermes, standing in the center, shone like the rising sun.
Single-handedly, he had eradicated the three major scourges of Mayut Town. He was both a hero and a warrior.
“Ahhhhh!”
“Hahaha!”
“Finally, he’s dead.”
“From now on, the Dog Pirates, the Chainsaw Pirates, and the Twin Wheel Pirates will all be history.”
“Master Jormungandr!!!”
The townspeople were ecstatic. They never imagined that one day these three great scourges would be wiped out.
For years, they had endured oppression and plunder, but today they were finally liberated.
Especially those who had girls in their families, who had been killed or assaulted, now cried tears of joy, spreading the news to everyone.
In a single day, Mayut Town had changed completely.
Meanwhile, Hermes, the subject of all this discussion, was at the doctor’s place receiving treatment. Although he was injured, it was less severe than previous times.
He just needed some disinfecting and simple bandaging.
“Unbelievable!”
The doctor, while bandaging him, looked at the severed head of Kokos with a mixture of awe and admiration. This young man had actually succeeded.
Damn.
With 44 million Berries coming in, he had become rich overnight.
This job sure made money fast.
For some reason, the doctor felt a bit envious, wondering if he should change careers.
“Mayut will be peaceful from now on.”
“You’re a hero now. These three pirate groups have been oppressing people for a long time.”
The doctor’s eyes showed gratitude and a bit of moisture, indicating he had his own story.
“This trophy is for you, to cover the medical fees.”
The successful awakening of his Observation Haki left Hermes in a great mood.
After all, not everyone could awaken Haki.
“That’s 44 million.”
The doctor, who had been a bit sentimental, suddenly turned greedy.
“Is that a lot?”
Hermes scoffed, then continued disdainfully, “What’s the most common thing in this world? Pirates. They’re all walking Berries, ATM machines for me.”
The doctor was stunned, and then his face fell.
He admitted he was impressed by Hermes’s boasting.
“Alright, get out of here!”
“By the way, I have a favor to ask. If you’re not planning to leave Mayut soon, can you clean up the other pirate groups or gangs causing trouble?”
The doctor’s words carried a hint of hope.
Mayut wasn’t just plagued by three major scourges; there were still other small-time criminals. Right now, the only person who could restore peace was Hermes.
“I’m not a saint.”
Hermes waved his hand, leaving the doctor with a casual farewell.
“Sigh…”
The doctor sighed, not taking it to heart.
If he were in Hermes’s position, he wouldn’t agree either. Dealing with those violent pirates was life-threatening.
Being a pirate hunter made money quickly, but the danger was constant.
Walking by the river often, one’s shoes were bound to get wet.
Thinking from another perspective, the request did seem excessive.
But soon, Mayut Town experienced a major upheaval.
A one-sided slaughter began.
With his Observation Haki mastered, guns and sneak attacks no longer threatened Hermes. He became a cold, emotionless killer, harvesting lives without mercy.
Raindrops fell from the sky, but what flowed in the gutters was blood.
Many ordinary residents stood at their doors, watching the blood on the ground, listening to the occasional screams and pleas for mercy amid the lightning and thunder, clenching their fists and praying.
“Master Jormungandr.”
“Stay safe.”
“Our hero.”
The doctor also stood before his small clinic, choking up and muttering, “What a stubborn and admirable young man. I’ve brought a hero back from death several times.”
From his muttering, it was clear the doctor was a bit of an exaggerator who loved to boast.
Indeed.
Hermes was now cleaning up the remaining scum in Mayut. Since he planned to rest for two or three days before leaving, he took the opportunity to solidify his Observation Haki and develop his Mini-Mini Fruit abilities in real combat.
These scumbags in Mayut were perfect targets.
At least Hermes felt no pressure.
Ordinary citizens were delighted, but the pirates were in panic.
As the sun rose.
Full of energy.
Long caravans traveled along winding roads.
On one of the carts, Hermes sat cross-legged, deep in thought.
“The awakening of Observation Haki was an unexpected surprise. If I could awaken Armament Haki too, that would be great!”
“The Kingdom of Prodence is in the New World, so the royal family should have some knowledge about Haki or other abilities.”
Hermes refused to believe that a kingdom, even without counting the powerful figures among the citizens, didn’t have skilled guards or hidden forces.
Worst case, he could negotiate with the Navy to get one or two techniques.
It seemed that the neighbouring country of Providence was Dressrosa, and young Doflamingo hadn’t become king yet. Hermes realized he needed more information.
Along the way, Hermes made plans.
First, he needed to fully exploit Prodence Kingdom, his starting area, for maximum benefit.
If all else failed, he could become the king.
Dynasties come and go, each dominating for a few hundred years. In the world of pirates, seizing a country was easy, provided one had absolute power.
With the title of king, it would be easier to negotiate with the World Government.
Pirate hunter and king were just professions. He had to think long-term, no need to stick to one role.
He was free.
Ten days later.
The caravan struggled to reach the capital, having faced several robberies and checkpoints, and fought many battles. This showed how chaotic Prodence Kingdom was.
“No wonder it’s the capital, much more prosperous than the countryside.”
Walking down the seven or eight-meter-wide street, filled with people and vendors.
As the capital of a kingdom, it was much more bustling than other places. The order was relatively better, and while there were pirates and criminals, they weren’t as rampant as in Mayut.
Hermes first found an inn to rest and then planned to gather information.
In the evening.
As the sky turned red with the sunset, the capital lit up with lanterns.
Taverns and geisha houses were packed. These were the best places to gather information.
“Hey there, what can I get you?”
As Hermes walked into a tavern, a waiter greeted him with a smile.
“A bottle of rum and some of your best dishes.”
Looking around.
Most seats were filled, mostly with pirates and criminals, but there were also people from other walks of life. It was very lively.
Hermes sat at a table, courtesy of the waiter, and began eavesdropping on conversations at other tables.
He hoped to find the information he needed.
