The Most Talented Pirate Hunter - Chapter 35
“Who are you!”
Maybe it was the instinct of a skilled fighter.
At the moment their eyes met, both Hermes and Most felt a sense of threat.
Most couldn’t shake off a foreboding feeling. He was certain that this stranger had not been around the useless first prince because he’d been monitoring him closely.
Hermes didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he took out a bounty poster from his pocket.
After comparing it, he was sure.
This was his target: the captain of the Scythe Pirates, the Scythe Killer Most, with a bounty of 67 million Berries, a Paramecia-type Scythe Fruit user.
In the original series, this Devil Fruit was powerful.
A man nicknamed “Whirlwind Eric” consumed it. Its power allowed him to compress the air his hands moved through, creating invisible scythe-like slashes.
The generated wind could easily cut through rocks.
The faster the hands moved, the more wind blades could be produced simultaneously. These could even form highly destructive tornadoes capable of tearing enemies apart.
Since the power transformed air into wind blades, opponents couldn’t see the blades, only faint air distortions hinting at the direction of the attack.
Used effectively, this ability could defeat opponents without them realizing what hit them.
There was no doubt; this was a formidable Devil Fruit.
The destructive power was unparalleled, essentially making the user a unique type of swordsman.
But it also had a weakness: Observation Haki.
“Are you the Scythe Killer Most?”
Hermes’ disrespectful tone made Most’s face darken immediately.
Most was also a man of few words. He raised his hand and slashed, sending an invisible scythe wind blade towards Hermes.
Quick, precise, and deadly.
Most people would be taken down by this unexpected strike, but this method has been proven effective many times, making most confident.
However, Hermes was no ordinary person; he was the bravest man on the seas.
Seeing the raised hand, even an idiot would know an attack was coming.
Having confirmed his target, Hermes was already on guard.
Using Observation Haki was a standard move.
So, under the power of Observation Haki, the invisible scythe wind blade was revealed. Hermes merely sidestepped, feeling a cold gust pass by. The next moment, a large gash appeared on a building behind him, easily torn apart.
The sharpness was evident.
Seeing his first attack fail, Most furrowed his brow slightly, beginning to take Hermes seriously. However, he didn’t stop attacking, slashing through the air with both hands consecutively.
Two invisible scythe wind blades tore through the air, one after the other.
Hermes moved forward leisurely. When the attack came, he stepped left, then right, dodging easily once more.
Most’s expression grew serious.
“Dodging my attacks so easily? You’re no ordinary foe.”
“What’s your name, kid?”
“Hermes Jormungandr.”
This time, Hermes answered calmly.
Most found the name familiar, like he’d heard it somewhere before, but couldn’t place it. Regardless, he planned to kill Hermes.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Most stopped talking.
He continuously slashed through the air with his hands like windmills. In just a second, over ten invisible scythe wind blades converged on Hermes.
The air visibly tore and shredded. Hermes took a deep breath, concentrating intensely with Observation Haki, as the numerous attacks were overwhelming.
Dodging this wouldn’t be easy.
However, this scenario was perfect for improving his Observation Haki and coordination, though it was dangerous.
Whoosh!
A burning pain shot through Hermes’ arm. He was injured.
The surrounding ground was also sliced open, with unseen gashes appearing on the stone floor. Had he not dodged quickly, his hand might have been severed.
“Observation Haki, huh?”
Most glanced at Hermes’ arm wound, then smirked.
Surviving so many of his attacks with only minor injuries meant Hermes must be using Observation Haki.
Before coming to the Providence Kingdom, Most had sailed the seas. He wasn’t the most well-traveled but wasn’t a country bumpkin either.
He’d faced enemies with Observation Haki before. They all died under his wind blades.
So it didn’t mean much to him.
“Whirlwind Dance.”
A new wave of attacks began.
Most’s hands moved even faster.
Countless invisible scythe wind blades, like a swarm of unseen bees, rushed towards Hermes, overwhelming him.
Even with Observation Haki, dodging this barrage was impossible.
No wonder Most was so confident.
Sometimes, Observation Haki could be a cheat. But with enough attacks, densely packed, leaving no room to dodge, even if you saw the attack coming, it wouldn’t matter.
Hermes’ expression grew serious.
In his Observation Haki, he sensed nothing but attacks ahead. Most had smartly sealed off his escape routes, making this difficult.
For most, blocking was the only option, but Hermes was different.
He shrank to five millimeters, and combined with Observation Haki, what seemed like a dense attack now appeared full of gaps. Dodging was suddenly easy.
Hermes, like a tiny flea, weaved through the invisible wind blades towards Most.
This was unexpected for Most.
To him, Hermes vanished, unnoticed amidst the dust and debris kicked up by the wind blades slicing the ground.
Most lacked Observation Haki and good eyesight, which put him at a disadvantage.
His attacks ceased.
Most remained alert.
His instincts told him Hermes hadn’t left, just disappeared using some unknown method.
Suddenly.
Hermes reappeared before him, growing into a ten-meter giant. Two fingers raised high, and the air seemed to split as he brought them down like a mountain.
Most’s hair stood on end.
He crossed his arms defensively, unable to use his Devil Fruit powers in time.
“Ahhh!”
The immense force sent Most flying, crashing into a wall amidst a burst of rubble and dust.
Hermes pursued, his giant form casting a shadow, exerting immense pressure.
“Damn it.”
“You’re the pirate hunter who killed Bobob Rabbit.”
Most finally remembered why the name sounded familiar.
Rumor had it that the pirate hunter Hermes Jormungandr was a Devil Fruit user capable of changing size and using the Six Powers, particularly the Finger Gun.
Hermes had just demonstrated those abilities perfectly.
Amidst the dust.
Most barely finished speaking when a powerful kick sent him flying again, crashing to the ground, vomiting blood, and rolling uncontrollably.
The wind whistled past.
Most had no time to breathe. Pale-faced, he rolled aside as a giant foot slammed down, cracking the ground.
He couldn’t keep being overpowered.
Ignoring the pain, Most slashed out two wind blades while rolling.
Close observation revealed Most’s hands were trembling. Defending against that Finger Gun had been no easy feat.
“Cross Slash Dance.”
Two intersecting wind blades formed a cross, tearing through the air.
Hermes returned to normal size, his chest swelling as he prepared to use Iron Body.
Boom!
The pain was like being cut with knives. Hermes staggered back five steps, looking down at the cross-shaped wound on his chest, with even his ribs cracked.
He’d overestimated Iron Body and underestimated Most’s attack.
Trying to avoid danger had backfired.
He was severely injured in an instant.
