The Pirate: Dark Admiral - Chapter 30
“732 people, and only 61 of them can actually return to their homeland?” Tina muttered despondently after learning the exact figures.
“You’ve done very well. At least 61 families are saved, and the remaining ones don’t have to become slaves,” Admiral Louis comforted her.
“Little Tina, this is actually a very remarkable victory. Unlike other pirates, those under the slaver pirates often have hostages as shields. Many times, to ensure the safety of the hostages, we can’t push too hard and have to settle for releasing some slaves before making further plans,” Vice Admiral Adekin sighed but didn’t hold back his praise. “We know this approach often emboldens the slaver ships, but balancing safety and results is incredibly difficult. Your actions have significantly curbed those pirates’ arrogance. When you join the Navy, I’ll make sure to record this achievement for you.”
“Huh? I didn’t do much; it was all thanks to Brother Longinus!” Tina hurriedly waved off the compliment.
“Don’t worry, I won’t forget Longinus’ share. Right now, he’s probably being interviewed by reporters!” Vice Admiral Adekin said enviously. Despite his rank, his appearances in the newspaper were few and primarily incidental mentions related to Longinus.
He couldn’t help it. With his rugged looks and mediocre achievements, there was little newsworthy about him. But Rougishuwas different. Even a photo of his face could boost newspaper sales, and his perfect record made him the ideal role model, frequently mentioned by parents to their children across the region.
…
“Quite a flawless performance, Major Longinus. I look forward to our next collaboration!” said a human-sized bird gentleman as he tipped his hat.
“Deputy Chief Morgans, your questions were sharp and insightful. I think we might have the chance to collaborate again in the future.” Despite Morgans being a human-sized bird, Rougishudid didn’t show any signs of surprise.
“I have the same feeling. With your potential, Major Longinus, our collaboration won’t end here. I hope my reports will help spread your fame throughout the Grand Line!” Morgans waddled away, ignoring the distant laughter, maintaining his composure.
“Future president of the World Economic News?” Rougishuwatched Morgan’s leave then looked at his slightly closed palm. “Only by mastering the power of the press can ‘justice’ reach farther places!”
…
At night, kings from other nations began to arrive. This was the primary reason they asked the Navy to mediate. Without the “absolute justice” symbolized by the Navy, these kings wouldn’t dare enter neighboring territories so easily.
“The most challenging aspect of this four-nation meeting is Alabasta. They are the strongest and have gained the most from the recent war. While they would still be the biggest winners if they stopped now, they might lose considerable future benefits,” Vice Admiral Adekin explained to Rougishuduring a bustling banquet.
“Additionally, Alabasta’s old fox is cunning and ruthless. Over the years, he has led Alabasta into numerous wars, expanding their territory significantly. Frankly, I was surprised he even agreed to this four-nation meeting.”
“As for the other three countries, you should particularly watch out for King Azka. He’s not only greedy but also foolish. Despite losing the war, he might still fantasize about using his ‘superior’ negotiation skills to gain benefits. Don’t let his stupidity ruin the meeting.”
Rougishuchuckled wryly, “Are we here to mediate or babysit?”
“Great power comes with great responsibility!” Vice Admiral Adekin surveyed the room, then whispered, “Saintin Island is a mess. Although my territory is the largest among the branch vice admirals, it’s only because they consider me the least experienced.”
“According to my predecessor, many Navy stationed here have noticed frequent activities of the World Government’s intelligence agencies on this island. It seems the government places high importance on this area. So, we all agreed to keep Saintin Island stable to avoid interference from those government agents.”
“Is it due to the Nefertari family’s former royal status or the royal family’s possession of a Poneglyph?” Rougishuwondered, recalling memories from his otherworldly soul. “It should be the former. Otherwise, the World Government wouldn’t have allowed Crocodile to wreak havoc in Alabasta for so many years.”
As Rougishupondered, Vice Admiral Adekin clapped him on the shoulder and said, “Looks like I’m in the way. I’ll leave you, the Marine hero, to showcase your charm!”
Sure enough, once Adekin left, many young women flocked over.
“Are you Major Longinus, who saved those poor slaves? You’re as handsome as they say in the papers… I mean, as kind as they describe!”
“Kindness is evident at a glance? Clearly, you’re drawn by his looks. Superficial! I’m different. I see Major Longinus’ intriguing soul!”
“You… you’re so shameless!”
“Major Longinus, could you share your heroic stories of fighting pirates with us? If time is tight, we can go somewhere quieter to discuss.”
“You old hags in your twenties, let go of Major Longinus! Can’t you find someone your age to bother?”
“What do you young brats know?”
“Auntie, you’re so annoying!”
“What did you call me?”
“Sorry, I should’ve called you grannies instead!”
“You little brat, I’ll rip your mouth apart!”
“Bring it on! I’ve had enough of you grannies!”
As the conflict escalated, Rougishufound himself bewildered and pushed aside.
A familiar yet unfamiliar face appeared before him, too excited to speak correctly, “L-Long-RougishuMajor, seeing you here, I… I’m so happy.”
“Let me introduce myself. I am Nefertari Cobra, Crown Prince of Alabasta, and your most devoted admirer!”
