Unscientific Scientist From Sunagakure - Chapter 198
Different professions have different focuses.
Danzo only saw the tamahagane produced by the mine. He was unaware that the mine also produced silver, albeit in smaller quantities and less famous than tamahagane. However, this silver was also a significant source of revenue for the Daimyo.
Danzo, not understanding this, boldly demanded the entire mine. The mine officials didn’t physically attack him only because he was a disabled person.
Danzo finally understood the whole picture after hearing the mine official’s explanation.
Danzo’s eyes shifted. “Then we can separate them. Give the tamahagane to Konoha and the silver to the Daimyo.”
Having led the Root division in Konoha for so long, Danzo was used to his underhanded schemes. His worldview was limited.
His suggestion was incredibly naive. What did he mean by giving the tamahagane to Konoha and the silver to the Daimyo? Even if given to Konoha, it would be a grant, something they could only have if granted. If not granted, they shouldn’t even think about it.
This was the mindset of those in power. Even the good-natured Yorinaga was displeased upon hearing this. Baka. Are you ordering me around, Shimura Danzo?
“I’m tired now,” Yorinaga said, standing up. The paper doors beside him slid open.
Danzo panicked. “Daimyo-sama, please support Konoha.”
“Let’s talk about it later,” Yorinaga said without turning back and left. The other officials also bowed, then rose to leave, leaving Danzo sitting there dumbfounded.
That night, Yorinaga summoned elder Hosokawa and advisor Hanama.
“Gentlemen, what do you make of Konoha’s situation? Is Sunagakure really a threat as he claims?” Yorinaga asked.
Hosokawa replied, “According to intelligence, Sunagakure has been building factories and developing their industry, becoming stronger than before. Konoha recently established ironworks, so Danzo might genuinely be seeking resources to compete with Sunagakure.”
Yorinaga nodded. “Should we then grant them the tamahagane?”
Hanama immediately opposed it. “Absolutely not. We can’t even sell it to them.”
Yorinaga was puzzled. “Why do you say that, Hanama?”
Hanama explained, “Daimyo-sama, look at the example of the Wind Country.” He began to recount Muzake’s achievements.
“Since the Fifth Kazekage came to power, Sunagakure changed its policies, no longer relying on missions or funding from the Daimyo, sustaining itself through industry. Eventually, the Wind Country Daimyo was overthrown, and the country is now governed by forty-six small lords.”
Hanama, filled with righteous indignation, continued, “Samurai live to serve, and ninjas live by missions. The Daimyo is the nation’s lord and gem, which is the true order. Now, ninjas want to detach from the Daimyo’s financial support. If we let them start, we might face another Sunagakure situation in the future.”
Hanama bowed deeply to the floor. “Daimyo-sama, you wouldn’t want the Fire Country to be ruled by a hundred small lords in the future, would you?”
Yorinaga’s heart pounded. Hanama was right. Ninjas lived in their villages, and their connection with him was financial. Without his missions, they couldn’t sustain their villages. If they developed their industries and financial sources, who would govern the Fire Country in the future? The Daimyo or the Hokage? If another Muzake emerged in Konoha, what would happen?
His loyalty swung toward Hanama. Hanama was a true loyalist, while Shimura Danzo was a treacherous scoundrel.
“Immediately expel Shimura Danzo from Momoyama Castle and tell him I won’t sell him any tamahagane. Furthermore, Konoha is banned from purchasing any Fire Country minerals,” Yorinaga ordered Hosokawa and Hanama.
They promptly headed to the inn and threw Danzo, who was resting, out.
Hanama shouted, “Shimura Danzo, get out of Momoyama Castle now.”
Danzo was bewildered. “What happened? I demand to see the Daimyo.”
“Daimyo-sama will not see you,” Hosokawa replied.
“I have served and bled for the Fire Country. I must see the Daimyo,” Danzo insisted.
Hanama sneered. “Shimura Danzo, leave and never return to Momoyama Castle. This is Daimyo-sama’s order.”
“What about my mines?” Danzo still had his ambitions.
“There will be no mines for you. Fire Country’s minerals are now off-limits to Konoha,” Hosokawa replied.
Danzo felt as if a thousand birds struck his head. Baka. What’s happening?
Looking at Momoyama Castle’s keep, Danzo choked back his words. Traitors have ruined the nation. I, Shimura Danzo, am loyal to my core! Daimyo-sama!
