Vongola Primo in One Piece - Chapter 406
“Laboon? I never thought I’d have the chance to hear that name again in this lifetime… even though I’m already dead.”
Even though Brook sounded like he was joking, he seemed depressed at this moment. Laboon brought back memories of many things, not just their promise but also his former comrades. Yet now, only he survived, while Laboon was left at the Twin Capes, and he couldn’t leave this accursed Florian Triangle.
After all, he couldn’t handle sunlight. If he left Florian Triangle, he’d likely be reduced to ashes.
“What, aren’t you planning to go back and see that guy? He’s been ramming his head to Twin Capes day and night, and he’s probably all battered up. If you don’t go back to stop him soon, you might never see him again in the future,” Giotto said when he noticed Brook’s dejected expression. He also noticed that Brook was now missing his shadow, likely taken by Moria.
Moria seems to be quite quirky, and while he had no trouble creating a zombie army with shadows, it was clear that he should have found some strong shadows and bodies if he wanted to dominate New World.
But what was his current situation?
His strongest zombie was probably Ryuma, which was Shimotsuki Ryuma’s body with Brook’s shadow inside, while the rest wasn’t worth mentioning.
Captain John, Ochoku, and Silver Axe were all once formidable combatant in their own right. Even when they were part of the Rocks Pirates, they were exceptionally strong. But under Moria’s control, they were just a little better than regular grunts.
In reality, with Moria’s current power, even if he might struggle to find Vice Admiral-level shadows, finding Rear Admiral-level shadows should be a breeze, right? There were rookies emerging in Grand Line every year. Snatching the shadows of three people should be more than enough.
As long as those shadows had decent strength, they would be quite hard to deal with once they were inserted into the bodies that Moria provided. It might even reach Vice Admiral-level if Moria was lucky. Then, with those powerful underlings, Moria could gradually amass stronger shadows and build up their strength.
Wouldn’t that be enough to quickly build a powerful zombie army?
Instead, Moria just lazed around in his castle even though he had become as round as a ball. He was practically begging to be pummeled to death by Luffy!
“It’s hard to say. I’ve been stranded in this sea for too long. A few years ago, something happened, and a man took my shadow. Without a shadow, I can’t live in a place with sunlight, so I have to hide here, unable to return to Laboon.”
There was a hint of sadness in Brook’s words. Nevertheless, he had come to terms with his current condition.
“I see. After listening this much, I understand. It’s Gecko Moria, right? The Shadow-Shadow Fruit user and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea,” Giotto said, confirming Brook’s predicament.
Upon hearing this, Brook tilted his head and asked in a peculiar manner, “What do you mean by the Seven Warlords of the Sea?”
Having spent too much time in this area, Brook was unfamiliar with the concept of Seven Warlords of the Sea, but he knew about Moria, the guy who had taken his shadow.
“Well, how should I explain it to you? After Pirate King’s era, the era of Vongola Primo and Two Emperors rose. To retain the balance of power with New World pirates, the World Government recruited powerful pirates to work for them. That’s the Seven Warlords of the Sea, who are tasked with dealing with the powerful pirates in New World.”
Giotto provided a brief explanation.
“I see. Now I understand. But what’s Pirate King?” Brook asked, still curious. He was like a curious child, eager to learn about everything. He had been isolated from the world for so long that he was unfamiliar with many things.
“Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King of the previous era, the person who had travelled around the whole world and reached the final island, Laugh Tale.”
Giotto sighed and continued to explain.
Upon hearing this name, Brook fell into deep thought. After a long while, he suddenly exclaimed, “It seems that when I was still alive, there was a newcomer named Roger.”
For him, Roger was just a newcomer. Even those like Gol D. Roger, who later dominated the New World, probably set out to sea after him. Brook was around 88 years old now, and while his bones were well-preserved, he was an old man. During those decades, he had spent most of his time alone on this dilapidated pirate ship.
“You will eventually learn about them once you’re out. For now, I’ll take you to find Moria and have him return your shadow.”
Giotto turned around and jumped back onto his small boat. “What are you still standing there for? Your ship can’t sail anymore. You can come with me on my ship for now. But let me remind you again, keep that thing you wanted to say earlier to yourself, or I’ll turn you into ash. Understood?”
Brook had wanted to decline initially, but he was already on Giotto’s boat before he realized it. He looked at the young man curiously and was at a loss for words.
He knew how powerful the man who had taken his shadow was. However, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse the man’s offer upon looking at the person in front of him. The young man had an extraordinary aura that made even a skeleton like him believe in what he was saying.
Did he want to get his shadow back?
Of course, he longed to retrieve his shadow. Besides seeing Laboon, he wanted to bask in sunlight. But in addition to this desire, Brook had something else on his mind mind: “Uh, lovely lady…”
“Boom!”
Color of Supreme King Haki instantly overwhelmed Brook, and not a word could escape his lips.
