Yasuo in Marvel - Chapter 17
After completing a spectacular six-kill spree, Yasuo was quite satisfied with his performance. The injuries he sustained were gradually healing due to his strong physical recovery abilities (similar to the health regeneration function in the game).
After resting for about ten minutes, a black sports car with its headlights on sped towards him from a distance. Yasuo recognized the car; it was Blade’s vehicle, the same one he had the privilege of riding in before. In movies and TV shows, the police always arrive late to clean up the mess and remove the bodies. Yasuo hadn’t expected that even superheroes in the Marvel universe could be late. He had already finished the fight by the time Blade arrived. If Yasuo hadn’t had any skills, would Blade have come to collect his corpse?
The car stopped beside Yasuo, and the door opened, revealing Blade still wearing his sunglasses. He gestured for Yasuo to get in.
“Hey, man, you were really late this time. You have no idea how dangerous it was. Six vampires ambushed me with submachine guns. If I hadn’t been smooth with my moves, quick with my E, and had the right tools (Yasuo was referring to his dual summoner skills), you might have been collecting my corpse,” Yasuo complained to Blade inside the car.
“But you’re still alive, aren’t you?” Blade replied coolly, as if Yasuo’s survival was of no concern to him.
“Hey, that’s because I was really slick, you know? I was so slick I went godlike,” Yasuo muttered, indicating it was all thanks to his own abilities.
“Vampires are special magical creatures, and normal means can hardly kill them. Even I rely on special equipment. You managed to take out ten regular vampires and an elite vampire last time, showing that your strength isn’t as weak as you think. If you couldn’t hold out against six elite vampires until I arrived, it would just mean you were weak. But from what I see now, my judgment was correct. You’re even stronger than I thought. You managed to take down six elite vampires without sustaining much damage,” Blade said.
“Oh, by the way, I know an important piece of information. The New York police chief might have connections with vampires. I think we should pay him a visit to ask about the vampires’ whereabouts,” Yasuo remembered the police chief. Since it was confirmed that vampires were equivalent to minions in the game and killing them could provide him with gold, his hopes for getting stronger were pinned on these vampires.
“It’s useless. Government officials have become Haku Clan members. For the promise of eternal life and immense power, what’s losing the sun to some of these people?” Blade said, taking off his sunglasses to reveal his terrifying eyes, explaining some harsh realities.
Blade continued, “The vampire empire has signed a peace treaty with the American government, which is why vampires haven’t been widely known to the public. This treaty maintains a semblance of peace. But every long-standing agreement eventually sees rebels like Deacon Frost. The vampires you’ve encountered lately are all under his command.”
“Hey, I have a question. Vampires aren’t as strong as I thought. How did they force the American government into signing that ridiculous peace treaty? Mutants are a hundred times stronger than vampires,” Yasuo asked, finally voicing his doubt. Everything seemed too strange. Without clarifying, Yasuo feared he wouldn’t sleep well at night.
“Because the vampire empire has existed for thousands of years. Initially, they had no great ambitions. Some power-hungry and conspiratorial individuals in the government thought they could fully control the vampires. If vampires were truly on the brink of extinction one day, the government would likely step in to protect them. After all, the allure of eternal life is too strong. That’s the ridiculous government for you,” Blade said, revealing the government’s paradoxical stance.
Yasuo could sense Blade’s frustration. Indeed, humans are such a contradictory species. They fear the unknown yet yearn to possess it. The peace treaty wasn’t about vampires forcing the government but rather about humanity’s own desire to understand and gain their powers.
“Because they’ve existed for so long and have accumulated massive wealth, many vampire families are involved in politics, finance, and even the military. Numerous Haku Clan members hope to leverage vampire power and wealth to achieve their goals. The vampire empire is far more complex than you think. A New York police chief is no big deal. Trust me, even Congress likely has their members,” Blade continued, illustrating the vampire empire’s vast influence.
Yasuo finally understood. The vampires, in terms of influence in America, were akin to ancient noble families in China. Even the president would face a swarm of opposing congressmen if he tried to act against the vampire empire.
Blade parked the car at the previous intersection and told Yasuo, “If you don’t want to expose yourself, don’t act alone in the future. I’ll notify you of any vampire activities in advance.” He then indicated for Yasuo to get out.
Meanwhile, Deacon Frost was in his villa, uncharacteristically agitated, smashing numerous items and even biting several human females to death.
Vampires have a strict hierarchy. The six elite vampires Yasuo had killed were Deacon Frost’s direct subordinates, genetically programmed never to betray him. Deacon Frost could only support ten elite vampires at most, one of whom had died to Blade. Losing seven in the past two days severely weakened his ranks, disrupting many pre-planned operations.
What made him angrier was that capturing Yasuo was crucial for luring Blade into his next plan, where capturing Blade alive was essential.
Just then, an elite vampire responsible for important tasks reported, “The item will arrive in New York in two days, but the mercenaries have temporarily increased their price.”
Deacon Frost finally heard some good news. Money was meaningless to an immortal vampire.
“Agree to their terms. I need that item as soon as possible,” he ordered.
