Yasuo in Marvel - Chapter 39
###
“What are we waiting for? Let’s get going, Melinda!” Yasuo was eager to start another adventure, feeling that the days of inactivity were behind him.
“Sorry, I’ve moved to desk duty and won’t be participating in field missions anymore. I’ll contact your partner; don’t worry, it’s someone you know well,” Melinda refused Yasuo’s request and dialed a number. “You can come in now,” she said.
Yasuo wondered when he had become so familiar with anyone in S.H.I.E.L.D.
A handsome young man entered the shop, looking excitedly at Yasuo. Yasuo recognized him as the rookie agent who had driven him home two months ago, though he couldn’t quite recall the name.
“It’s an honor to work with you, sir. You can call me Stephen. I’ll be responsible for guiding you on this mission!” Stephen was visibly thrilled. The events from two months ago in the tunnel had left a profound impact on him, with images of the huge container, the terrifying monsters, the strong wind, and the mysterious red figure often replaying in his mind.
“Stephen is only responsible for your transportation. He will not be involved in any investigation or combat. Once you make contact with Agent Sharon Carter, he will leave. I hope you can cooperate with Sharon and let her take the lead,” Melinda explained and then left the shop.
The shop fell silent after Melinda’s departure. Yasuo and Stephen stared at each other, the silence stretching for over ten minutes. Finally, Yasuo couldn’t take it anymore and asked, “Agent Stephen, where are we supposed to go?”
Stephen blushed a little, realizing his mistake. “Sokovia. Agent 13’s last transmission indicated she was in Sokovia.”
Hearing the name Sokovia, Yasuo felt a wave of confusion. As a Marvel fan, he knew the city well. Sokovia, like Wakanda, was a fictional city in the Marvel universe, located in Eastern Europe. It would later be the site where Ultron planned to use Sokovia to destroy Earth and was also a Hydra stronghold.
Vampires, Reapers, Sharon Carter, Sokovia, Hydra?
Yasuo couldn’t connect the dots. Why would Sharon Carter be investigating Reapers and end up in Sokovia instead of dealing with vampires? It didn’t make sense.
Having received $30,000, Yasuo generously treated Stephen to a takeaway meal. During the meal, Yasuo found Stephen’s constant intense gaze a bit unsettling, like a fanboy admiring his idol.
On the plane, Yasuo experienced flying for the first time in his two lifetimes. It was a S.H.I.E.L.D. private jet, and the entire plane had just him and Stephen, along with two beautiful flight attendants. If not for Stephen’s constant staring, everything would have been perfect.
Yasuo suspected Stephen might be gay, given how he ignored the beautiful flight attendants and kept staring at him. Yasuo tried to distract himself from these thoughts.
During the long flight, Yasuo ate five airplane meals, which he found much better than instant noodles. The flight attendants eventually lost interest in him. Finally, bored, Yasuo picked up the mission report, which detailed Sharon Carter’s investigation. It included information about the vampires in New York, a mysterious group capturing vampires, a vampire trading location in Sokovia, a summary of Carter’s analysis, and her final distress call.
Originally, Yasuo thought this mission was a sure thing. In his knowledge of the Marvel vampires, the Reapers from “Blade II” were among the weakest, even less threatening than Deacon Frost as the Blood God. Deacon Frost had posed no real threat to Yasuo, aside from being tough.
However, Yasuo’s interference had already caused many unexpected changes. Now, the world was different from what he knew. The Sokovia subplot, which should have occurred during Ultron’s time, was happening now. Vampires, Reapers, and Hydra, which were originally unrelated, were now connected. Everything was becoming unfamiliar, and the unknown enemies excited Yasuo.

Two months ago, Sharon Carter accepted the mission to investigate the mysterious organization. Following Yasuo’s lead about the Reapers being special vampires, she decided to start with the vampires. Initially, she investigated various locations in the U.S., but to her disappointment, after Deacon Frost’s defeat, the vampires seemed to have gone into hiding, making her mission difficult. Fortunately, a month ago, she captured two vampires who couldn’t resist going out to feed. They revealed that a mysterious group was capturing vampires.
Reapers equal vampires, and now a group capturing vampires had emerged. Following this lead, Carter tracked them to Sokovia, to an underground vampire trading market.
The Republic of Sokovia was in constant turmoil, with refugees and mercenaries everywhere. Carter’s investigation in Sokovia was not going well. After ten days, she had only identified a few suspicious targets. Then, she noticed a disciplined group of about two hundred Reapers. Following their trail, she found their base, but what she saw there left her even more confused: a half-destroyed underground base with many people and machinery repairing the defenses.
After further investigation, a terrifying name appeared: Hydra. The organization her aunt, Peggy Carter, had fought against all her life.
Now, she faced a dilemma: had her cover been blown and the enemy was misleading her with Hydra, or were the Reapers truly Hydra’s creation?
The more she investigated, the more shocked she became. All evidence pointed to the existence of a Hydra base in Sokovia. To gather more concrete evidence, she snuck into the base one night. Everything went smoothly until a middle-aged man blocked her exit. She managed to escape but was infected with an unknown virus. Before passing out, she sent a distress signal.
